What We Believe

About the Bible

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the supernaturally and verbally inspired Word of God. The Bible is the first and final authority of faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible, and God-breathed.

(2 Timothy 3:16,17)

About God

We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God. He is an infinite, intelligent Spirit. He is the maker and supreme ruler of Heaven and Earth: inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. They are equal in every divine perfection, and execute distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.

(Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

About Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal son of God, became incarnate, without ceasing to be God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men. He accomplished redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice. Our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. He ascended to heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor and Advocate.

(John 1:1-2)

About the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person. He is equal with God the Father and God the Son, and of the same nature. He was active in the creation. He restrains the evil one until God’s purpose is fulfilled. He convicts of sin of judgement, and of righteousness. He bears witness to the Truth of the Gospel in preaching and testimony. He is the agent of the New Birth. He seals, baptizes, indwells, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies and helps the believer.

(John 14:16,17)

About Creation

We believe the Genesis account of the creation is to be taken literally. Man was created directly in God’s own image and after His own likeness. All animal and vegetable life was made directly, and God’s established law was that they should bring forth only “after their kind”.

(Genesis 1)

About the Atonement

We believe that salvation of sinners is wholly of grace, through the mediatory offices of the Son of God, who by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon Himself our nature, yet without sin, honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and by His death made a full and vicarious atonement for our sins. His atonement consisted not of setting us an example by His death as a martyr, but was the voluntary substitution of Himself in the sinner’s place. The Just died for the unjust. Christ the Lord, bore our sins in His own body on the tree. He then rose from the dead. He is now enthroned in Heaven. He is in every way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate, all-sufficient Savior.

(Romans 3:24)

About Grace and the New Birth

We believe in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; A new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus. It is instantaneous and not a process. In the new birth the one dead in trespasses and in sins is made a partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life, and the free gift of God. The new creation is brought about in a manner above our comprehension, not by character, nor by the will of man, but wholly and solely by the power of the Holy Spirit in connection with divine truth. Its proper evidence appears in the holy fruits of repentance, faith, and newness of life. (John 3; 2 Corinthians 5:17)

About the Resurrection and Return of Jesus Christ

We believe in and accept the Sacred Scriptures upon these subjects at their face and full value. Of the Resurrection, we believe that Christ rose bodily, that He ascended to the right hand of the throne of God; that He alone is our High Priest in things pertaining to God; that this same Jesus shall come in like manner as he went away, bodily, personally and visibly. We further believe that the dead in Christ shall rise first; that the living saints shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump, that the Lord God shall reign a thousand years in righteousness, until He has put all enemies under His feet.

(Matthew 28:6,7; 1 Thessalonians 4:16)
